I finished my May of 2009 pile and will resume reading with the Junes 2009 editions of my comic books. I haven't checked in on Hellblazer, Swamp Thing or Usagi Yojimbo lately perhaps I will spread some love their way as well. My Christmas 2010 comic pickup ups included the collect Be Edlund Tick, Karma Tornado collected edition, Tick Big Blue Destiny collected and the collected Tick specials. I recently finished the issue of Back Issue magazine dedicated to war comics as well.

This year I have followed the Comic Book podcast scene more then in any previous years. Man there are a lot out there. Still lots of room for shows. No one else will have the voice or the thoughts you do, it's easy ...do it.

Newest one I have found.
Swasscast
Extra Sequential

Now is time for Christmas cleaning. The method I use to keep up with comic book podcasts is that as I find them I load them into iTunes that way I know which are active and how long its been since a show came down. The current time frame Derek and I use with the wiki is a year. If the feed has not produced a show in a year we consider it faded and move the show to the appropriate list.

These feeds are no longer functioning for one reason or another

These have active feeds but not shows for a year

Over the Thanksgiving holiday I caught up on the Green Hornet books, almost caught up on the Locke and Key books and started catching up on the Muppet books.

My thoughts:

Kevin Smith's Green Horent 1-10: Kevin Smith - writer
Phil Hester/Jonathan Lau - art
I have always enjoyed Kevin's writing (especially his movies). The team of Hest and Lau is a pleasure to the eye. The first ten issues is the first arc of the book and I enjoyed muchly. I would recommend giving it a try to all who ask. 4 out of 5 Hornets.

Green Hornet Year One 1-6: Matt Wagner - writer
Aaron Campbell - art
I believe all comic book readers are familiar with the 'year one' concept of story telling. The series is the origin and initial adventures of the original Green Hornet and Kato from the Golden Age. The writing and art combine to make my most enjoyed of the Green Hornet books. 4 out of 5 hornets.

The Green Hornet Strikes 1-4: Brett Matthews - writer
Ariel Padilla - art
This story centers on the Green Hornet in a time a generation or so beyond our own, near future I suppose it would be called. The Reid that is this latest incarnation is the most interesting of the Hornet persons so far. The artwork was solid, not distracting rather adding to the feel of the story. 3.5 out of 5 hornets.

Green Hornet Parallel Lives 1-5: Jai Nitz - writer
Nigel Raynor - art
This series is tied to the upcoming movie. I'm not sure if its a tie in or the adaptation. I really liked the covers on the series. The cover image was juxtaposed over a portion of the image enlarged as the background. The art for the book was good the story was slightly interesting. As a whole I missed the point of this series the most. 2 out of 5 hornets.
Green Hornet Blood Ties 1: Ande Parks - writer
Johnny Desjardins - art
I really enjoyed the artwork here more then any of the other Dynamite Greeh Hornet books. Unfortunately the writing encouraged me to put the book down and not even finish reading it. The story takes place during the tenure of the original duo. Mafia, Yakuza and 30's settings are all a plus I just couldn't see past and find something to get me to finish this book. 1 out of 5 hornets.

Kevin Smith's Kato 1-5: Ande Parks - writer
Ale Garza/Diego Bernard - art
The stories centers on the beginnings of Kevin Smith's Kato and how she is entangled with Green Hornet's foe Black Hornet. The story is solid but not overly new. The villain has been done before so again not new. The story in my mind was entertaining but I can't really say more then that. The art was more enjoyable then the writing but alas it couldn't completely make up for my feelings on the writing. 2 out of 5 hornets for this one.

Kato Origins 1-5: Jai Nitz - writer
Colton Worley - art
The series centers on the origins and early career of the original Kato. This one also has been done before but there are a few new ideas and the personal missionKato undertakes had some interesting points. I was interested in reading how Kato via his father, who trained him, mixed the aspects of Shinobi and Bushido. Honor and obfuscation used to best benefit, most excellent ideas. The art definitely lended itself to the story. 3 out of 5 hornets.

Only recent podcast I have run across.

I have moved into May of '09 in my monthly books. Direct TV's Center Ice seems to be wrecking havoc on my reading of late.

Recently I acquired the first two volumes of Kingyo Used Bookstore and the first two hardcover editions for mouse Guard.

Good vs Evil

Wednesday, October 20, 2010

So I have moved into May of '09 on my regular reading.

I am reading Usagi Yojimbo, Hellblazer, Thor, Nick Fury and Green Arrow from the beginning. The first two for pleasure and the other three as research for podcasts.

Initially my son and I were gonna do an Iron Man podcast but we have waited too long and a couple have come out so we have switched our sights to Green Arrow.

Thor is moving along. We are recording another this evening actually. The numbers have been solid and we are still enjoying ourselves doing it, Teri and I that is. Hey if anyone reads this and feels inclined give us a vote

Thanks see ya next time.

Thursday, October 14, 2010

Finished up March '09 books and moved into April. Teri and I have also both read 8 issues of the 1952 Journey into Mystery and Thor 2007 615 and 616. I now need to read a couple issues of Hellblazer to keep up with a friend who is reading them also.

Still workin on catching up as I'm still reading through my books from January of 2009. I have started reading the most recent volume of Thor from the beginning, finished 10 issues last night.

SO lately my reading interest has taken a slightly darker bent. I am reading along with an associate of mine Hellblazer starting from the beginning and that piqued my interest in Swamp Thing so I have also started reading it from the beginning as well.

I'm still working through my books from February 2009 and keeping current on Thor, BPRD/Hellboy and The Walking Dead. Occasional forays into back issue of Usagi Yojimbo and Marvel comics round out what I'm reading when not watching dance reality shows with my girlfriend.

Throw in highlight shows from the NFL and college football and the warming up of the NHL season and my dance card is fairly full. Two podcasts active and three more possible any given week and I can't quite figure out how I am keeping up with all the things I want to do. I have so far.

Still workin on February 2009 books.

I've been keepin up on Thor for The Mighty Thorcast and I have joined with a compatriot and will be reading an issue of Hellblazer each week.

Organizing my collection is also an ongoing endeavor.

Reading update

I have been progressing on my monthly comic book list. I have amassed a Murdian stack of comics to read, January 2009 being were I currently find myself.

I have finished off January 2009 and moved on to February, which I am halfway through. Its amazing how much can be accomplished with a weekend of reading.

I have introduced Usagi Yojimbo to my muse and she is interested in it, kinda cool. She's been reading a lot of Calvin and Hobbes this weekend interspersed with some Bloom County.

Thor 611 and 612 and The Rage on Thor one shot as well as the Thor stories from Journey into Mystery 83 and 84 have been consumed lately. These are all in preparation for the first and second episodes of The Mighty Thor podcast.

I'm also cought up with The Walking Dead. Come on folks lets chill about the space alien segment.

Finished up BPRD The Warning and BPRD War on Frogs. The additions to and fleshing out of the mythos is cool but I really miss Hellboy and still am not happy with the sullen Abe Sapien and Roger's gone, not cool.

To be read

Wow I have managed to run across 25 new comic book related podcasts since the first of June. Then new Mighty Thorcast is a definite go, recording Wednesday night. It also appears as though Cubbie and I, Bearded Dragon, will be starting up the Invincible Ironcast as well. It may be that my plans for MBA Black & White are shelved for the time being. We'll have to wait and see.

Amazing Spider-Man Classics

Also of note the Green Lantern Spotlight podcast has closed up shop.

So work is proceeding quite nicely on the Thor themed podcast my fiancée and I are doing. I have collected all Thor works that I have and should be recording within the next week or so.

MBA Black & White is about ready as well. I have been working my way through the books I scored at Herocon, good Stuff.

Sorry so short again wanted to get the new opdcasts listed.

Helooooo!

The Comic Book Guy

Wildstorm Addiction- formerly of The Comic Addiction family.

I have finished 69-73 of the Walking Dead, I just got 74 so I'll read that in the next couple days but damn he must be building up to something because the story has seriously slowed down from what it was.

I've also read further in my BPRD/Hellboy catch up, all Abe Sapien stories have been consumed including Abyssal Plane. I enjoy Abe but I'm kinda worn out on the 'am I capable' 'can I do it' kinda crap they put Abe through.

The first 13 issues of Usagi Yojimbo as well. Well rounded, entertaining issues. I like the constant adding to the mythos Sakai is doing. Usagi inhabits one of my favorite literature time settings.

I have also been doing research on Wonder Woman and Thor for a couple upcoming projects. One of which has come to a screeching halt but the other should bear some fine fruit this coming week.

X-Nation formerly known as X Addiction. Now at a new Bat-time and Bat-channel.

Maximum Geek Comic Cast appears to be back from the Fadedlands

Comic Addiciton has now been transformed into X-nation, Image addiction and Wildstorm addiction. RIP Comics Addiction on the road, you will be missed.

I have finally finshed with my December 2008 books. Now I think I'll finally sit down and catch up on Wakling Dead and the BPRD/Hellboy Universe.

I'm thinking my next catchup project, while still trying to get caught up on recent books (January 2009), will be Usagi Yojimbo. I have wanted to read it forever and I'm thinking forever starts this week.

Monday, June 21, 2010

Whoa!

Independent Road

Not much comic news from me lately. Still reading through the stuff I snagged at Herocon and working through my December 2008 books (I'm kinda behind).
I do want to catch up on Walking Dead and the BPRD/Hellboy books as well.
I wanted to go ahead and post something to get out the addresses for the above two podcasts I've recently run across.
The Incredible Hulkcast is asking fro a list of the top ten hulk stories if any Hulk fans read this.
Later gator.

Batgirl to Oracle: The Barbara Gordon Podcast

Haven't had much time to read this past couple weeks because of all the podcast startup prep. I did read Marvels greatest comics 25 for the MBA podcast, man that 70's stuff is trip. I found the podcasts above so they're new to me but not new new with all having multiple shows.

I'm gonna try this weekend and catch back up with Walking Dead, I think I'm 6-8 issues behind again.

See ya.

P.S. It appears as the the Geekland podcast has come to an end.

It's Comic Book Day

The Walking Dead Podcast

Haven't been reading much lately. I am getting geared up to hit Charlotte this weekend with my sweetheart and two juvenile geeks. I am sure a fun time will be had by all.

I am very behind on new release, still tyring to make my way through those purchased in December of 2008 almost done with that project. A secondary project I have is to catch up on all the Hellboy and BPRD stories put out. I am about 80-85 percent done with that one.

Still moving forward on my podcast The Marvel Bronze Age. Episode 20 is in the can and Levi and I are lookin to record ep 21 tonite. I have been invited to co-host another and have been secured as creative advisor on a third. My podcast career is moving forward. As far as podcasts are concerned I owe a huge debt of thanks to Derek Coward for his help, adviseand energy on the MBA podcast and the DixieMoe cast. Thank you sir you are a true podcast ambassador.

I beleieve that catches up my comic book life. Stay tuned it may get better.

Saturday, May 22, 2010

I decided that I would make the first substantive post about podcasts, comic book podcasts.

This entire post is based on the wiki as initially set up by Derek Coward, located here.

This first grouping of podcasts should be added to those listed as faded. It was determined that a year with no new episodes was a good demarcation for faded-ness.
